Guwahati, Jan 16: The Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has approved Rs 2,000 crore for schemes to empower women and youth in the state. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting on Thursday, the first outstation meeting of the year.
The funding will support schemes like the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Asoni (MMMUA) and the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asoni for 2024-25. The guidelines for MMMUA were also approved, and seed capital distribution will begin in April. While around 31 lakh women are eligible for the scheme, 27 lakh women will benefit based on budget limits.
The Cabinet also approved increasing the state’s share capital in Assam Power Generation Company Ltd from Rs 3,000 crore to Rs 6,000 crore. Additionally, Rs 401.50 crore was approved for projects in the Bodoland Territorial Council, and guidelines were set for Anganwadi Centre Management Committees.
Several development projects were approved for Morigaon district, including infrastructure upgrades and school renovations. Regarding the Tata Group’s semiconductor assembly unit in Jagiroad, Sarma stated the government is ready to set up an industrial park if the district can provide 1,000 bighas of land.
Sarma stressed the need for smooth development without disruptions, saying such efforts are crucial for the state’s progress.
