Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday highlighted the BJP’s unique merit-based leadership system, stating that it is the only political party in India where an ordinary member can rise to the position of party president through hard work and dedication. Sarma made the comments during a program marking the unopposed election of Dilip Saikia as the new state president of the BJP.
Sarma contrasted the BJP’s leadership process with other parties like Congress, where leadership roles are often influenced by family connections. He emphasized that in the BJP, it is an individual’s commitment and service to the party that determines their rise. “In our party, one doesn’t have to be from a ‘royal family’ to reach the top. A simple ‘swayamsevak’ can become president if they work with dedication,” Sarma said.
He further praised Saikia’s journey within the party, noting that his rise to the top is a result of his hard work and not his family background. Sarma also expressed gratitude to the outgoing president Bhabesh Kalita for his leadership, which contributed to the BJP’s success in recent elections.
The CM also took a swipe at the Congress, claiming that if the party were to conduct similar internal elections, they would face significant infighting. He expressed confidence that under Saikia’s leadership, the BJP would achieve strong results in upcoming elections, including the state Assembly, Panchayat, and tribal council polls.
