Assam News: Guwahati Asian Film Festival 2025 to Feature Diverse Asian Cinema from February 7-9

Guwahati, Jan 17: The much-anticipated inaugural Guwahati Asian Film Festival (GAFF) will take place from February 7 to 9, 2025, at the historic Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio in Guwahati. The three-day event promises to bring the best of Asian cinema to the region, offering a platform for cultural exchange, creative dialogue, and global appreciation for diverse storytelling traditions.

The festival will open with the Iranian film In the Arms of the Tree, directed by Babak Khajehpasha, setting an inspiring tone for the inaugural edition. The closing film will be My Melbourne, a collaborative work by directors Imtiaz Ali, Rima Das, Onir, and Kabir Khan.

Organized by Trending Now Media, GAFF 2025 will showcase over 200 feature films from various Asian countries, including Iran, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Azerbaijan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Turkey. A special competitive section will also highlight North-East Indian cinema, with awards for categories like Best Film, Best Direction, and Best Performance.

Monita Borgohain, Honorary Festival Director, expressed enthusiasm about the event, stating, “GAFF 2025 is set to be a vibrant celebration of Asia’s rich storytelling traditions. Our curated lineup promises to captivate and inspire both filmmakers and audiences.”

The festival will also host a series of panel discussions and workshops led by renowned filmmakers and industry experts, providing opportunities for networking and collaboration.

Sri Lankan filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage will be the chief guest at the festival, which will also see the participation of notable industry figures like film critic Srinivasa Santhanam, National Award-winning filmmakers Utpal Borpujari and Manju Borah, and film critic Dalton Christopher.
