Kolkata, January 18: A local court in Sealdah has convicted Sanjay Roy for the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The Additional District and Sessions Court found Roy guilty under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to rape, murder, and causing death.
The incident took place on August 9, 2024, when the victim’s body was discovered in the seminar hall of the hospital. Following a High Court directive, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the probe.
Roy’s sentencing will be announced on January 20.
