Dima Hasao, Jan 18: A tragic accident occurred in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Saturday morning when a private school bus carrying 25 children fell off the road, resulting in the death of one student and injuries to 15 others. The bus, which was transporting students from Sacred Heart School, Saraswati Vidya Mandir, and Garampani High School, lost control at a sharp bend in the Umrangso area and plunged into a field near a cement factory.
According to police, the accident took place in the 19-Kilo area of Umrangso. The deceased, identified as 9-year-old Dalmir Rongpi, was a Class 3 student at Sacred Heart School. Two other students are in critical condition, while the remaining injured children were treated for minor injuries and later released from the hospital.
Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar Jha stated that an investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, though the immediate priority was to rescue the students. Local residents assisted authorities in the rescue efforts.
Family members of the injured students have gathered at the hospital, demanding an investigation into the incident and stricter safety measures for school transport. School authorities have not yet commented, and further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
