The Assam government is set to revamp the infrastructure of 252 government schools across the state, with an investment of over Rs 1,800 crore. The project aims to enhance educational facilities in rural areas, with the construction of new school buildings under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF).
Mamata Hojai, Director of Secondary Education, explained that the schools were selected from each of the 126 assembly constituencies, following announcements in last year’s budget. The construction work has already begun, with each school receiving a budget of Rs 7 to 8 crore. The project is expected to be completed by next year.

While the infrastructure upgrades are underway, Hojai did not specify whether the schools would remain in their vernacular medium or adopt a dual medium with English. A decision on this matter will be taken in the future.
