Tokyo, Jan 23: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Japan’s State Minister of Justice, Komura Masahiro, in Tokyo on Thursday to discuss the state’s plans to establish an industrial park for Japanese companies.
The two leaders also delved into the cultural and spiritual bonds between India and Japan, particularly focusing on Buddhist ideals as a bridge connecting the two nations.
CM Sarma shared insights from the meeting on social media, stating, “It was a privilege to meet H.E. Mr. Komura Masahiro. We had an insightful conversation on the shared values and ethos that tie India and Japan, and particularly how ideals of Buddha form a spiritual bridge between our two societies.”
During the discussions, Sarma emphasized Assam’s commitment to setting up a dedicated industrial park for Japanese businesses. He also addressed the potential for Assam’s skilled workforce to help meet Japan’s labor needs through various collaborative programs.
Sarma, who arrived in Tokyo after completing the first leg of his Advantage Assam 2.0 Roadshow in Seoul, South Korea, began his visit by paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Edogawa.
He was warmly welcomed by the Assamese diaspora and enjoyed meaningful interactions while savoring traditional Assamese dishes.
Later, CM Sarma addressed over 160 business leaders at the Advantage Assam Roadshow, highlighting the state’s vision for attracting investment through transparency, efficiency, and effective policies.
He also reaffirmed the growing Indo-Japan relationship, emphasizing Japan’s ongoing support for Assam’s development in sectors like infrastructure, healthcare, and urban planning.
This visit follows Sarma’s successful engagements in South Korea, where he met with stakeholders in renewable energy, semiconductors, and small and medium enterprises.
