Guwahati, Feb 14: Assam is set to welcome more than 10,000 tourists during the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, Tourism Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass announced on Friday.
The state has witnessed a significant surge in tourism, recording 7.6 million domestic visitors and 26,000 international tourists last year, marking a stark increase from the 8,000-10,000 foreign tourists it typically attracted before 2021.
As part of the summit’s initiatives, Assam will introduce helicopter services to offer visitors a unique perspective of the state’s diverse attractions. Hotels across all categories, from budget to luxury, are prepared to accommodate the anticipated influx of guests.
This tourism growth reflects a major transformation for Assam, which previously struggled to attract visitors due to political unrest and protests.
The state tourism department has also developed tailored sightseeing packages for delegates, showcasing the region’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
Minister Dass highlighted the government’s efforts to position Assam as a leading tourist destination, with the summit acting as a key catalyst for the state’s tourism expansion.
