Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to create history by becoming the first sitting CM to attend the Republic Day celebrations in Dibrugarh. This marks the first time the town will host the central Republic Day event, with decorations in tricolour enhancing the festive atmosphere.
Highlighting Dibrugarh’s journey, CM Sarma shared on social media, “From being affected by militancy to now hosting full-scale Republic Day celebrations, Dibrugarh has come a long way.”
While Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya will unfurl the national flag at Khanapara in Guwahati, CM Sarma will attend the Republic Day ceremony in Dibrugarh.
Ahead of the celebrations, CM Sarma reviewed preparations and urged the General Administration and Police Administration to ensure proper arrangements. He also directed the release of necessary funds and emphasized conducting cleanliness drives across the state with support from village heads and voluntary organizations.
A ‘Road Past’ event will also take place on January 25 in Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and other district headquarters as part of the pre-celebration activities.
