Manipur CM Announces Rs 3300 Crore Concrete Road Project; Emphasizes Welfare and Infrastructure Development

Imphal, Jan 23: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced a transformative Rs 3,300 crore project for reinforced cement concrete (RCC) roads in greater Imphal, with the agreement expected to be finalized later this month.

Addressing a public gathering, Singh stressed the significance of development initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being of the people. Among these is the expanded Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) health scheme, which now offers cashless treatment coverage of Rs 5 lakh, up from Rs 2 lakh. Over 2 lakh beneficiaries have received assistance under the scheme, with Rs 280 crore allocated. Additionally, more than 3 lakh people are covered under the Ayushman Bharat (PMJAY) scheme.

Singh highlighted other key infrastructure projects, including RCC retaining walls along riverbanks, costing approximately Rs 460 crore, to mitigate flooding risks. The ongoing Imphal River Project, valued at Rs 80 crore, aims to further enhance local infrastructure. The proposed concrete roads are designed to last 30 to 40 years with minimal maintenance.

In healthcare, the Chief Minister announced a Rs 100 crore allocation for new facilities in hill districts, including Chandel, Ukhrul, Jiribam, Senapati, and Tamenglong. These centers will feature advanced medical services such as CT scans, MRIs, ICU facilities, and super-specialty care.

Singh acknowledged the central government’s contributions, particularly from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, in constructing the Makru, Barak, and Irang bridges along National Highway-37, ensuring year-round connectivity.

During the event, acclaimed playwright and theatre director Ratan Thiyam was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to art and culture. Nine police officers from Assam, including the Director General of Police, were also commended for their role in training Manipur Police recruits.

The announcements reflect the state government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, healthcare, and overall welfare in Manipur.
