Imphal, Jan 23: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh reaffirmed the BJP-led government’s commitment to inclusive development, emphasizing that there is no distinction between hill and valley districts when it comes to welfare projects. His statement comes amid the ongoing ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities, which has led to over 250 deaths and the displacement of thousands since May 2023.
Speaking at a sports event in Riha village, Kamjong district, Singh reiterated that the government’s development approach is rooted in unity and respect for all communities. “We believe in inclusive development. When we show respect for one another, the bond of unity will be stronger,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister outlined several key initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and quality of life in the hill districts. In Kamjong, he highlighted the completion of a mini secretariat, which will soon be inaugurated, alongside upgraded schools and new 33/11 KV sub-stations. A bridge over the Maklang River has been sanctioned, and a District Transport Office (DTO) will also be set up in Kamjong.
Singh also provided updates on ongoing projects in Ukhrul district, including the construction of an astroturf football ground and the upgrading of Pettigrew College with an estimated budget of Rs 70 crore. To tackle water scarcity, a dam in Shiroy Hill has been completed with an allocation of Rs 6 crore. Additionally, the Chief Minister promised the construction of a new gallery at Lungreiphung ground in Riha village, with an estimated cost of Rs 2.5 crore.
These initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring that both hill and valley areas in Manipur benefit equally from development projects, fostering unity and progress despite ongoing challenges.
