Manipur Wins Gold and Silver in Men’s Triathlon at 38th National Games

Imphal, Jan 27: Manipur kicked off its campaign at the 38th National Games in Dehradun with an impressive performance in the men’s individual triathlon event, securing both gold and silver medals. Sarungbam Athouba Meitei clinched the gold with an outstanding time of 1:01:01, while his teammate Telheiba Soram claimed the silver, finishing with a time of 1:02:10. Maharashtra’s Parth Sachin Mirage took the bronze with a time of 1:02:14.

The triathlon, which consists of swimming, cycling, and running, is one of the major events of the National Games, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Games are set to run until January 30, with competitions scheduled every alternate day.

Manipur’s triathlon contingent also includes Bijenkumar Laikhuram in the men’s event, while female athletes Nongmaithem Nelshi Devi, Swety Nongmaithem, and Maibam Binita Chanu are participating in triathlon and duathlon events.

Athouba and Telheiba will also compete in the men’s and mixed relay duathlons, while Nelshi Devi and Sweety will represent the state in women’s triathlon, duathlon, and mixed relay events.

With a strong start, Manipur has set a high standard for the National Games ahead.
