Aizawl, Jan 25: Mizoram marked the 15th National Voters’ Day today with a state-level celebration held at the Assembly Conference Hall in Aizawl, attended by Governor Gen (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh. The Governor emphasized the pivotal role of the Election Commission of India in preserving democracy through fair, transparent elections.
In his address, Governor Singh praised India’s electoral system, particularly the adoption of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to ensure accessibility and transparency, even in remote areas. He also paid tribute to the five police personnel who lost their lives during the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Mizoram, expressing his condolences to their families.
The Governor urged eligible voters in Mizoram to register and actively participate in the electoral process, recognizing the power of voting in shaping governance. The event also featured the distribution of Election Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to newly registered voters and the presentation of Booth Level Officer (BLO) Awards to distinguished BLOs in Aizawl District.
The ceremony included a welcome address by Er. Lalhriatpuia, District Election Officer of Aizawl, and a special message from the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Pu Rajiv Kumar. Students from St. Joseph Higher Secondary School led the pledge-taking ceremony, which concluded the event.

National Voters’ Day is observed every year on January 25 to celebrate the foundation of the Election Commission of India in 1950. This year’s theme, “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure,” encourages citizens to become more involved in the electoral process. As of January 6, 2025, the Final Electoral Roll lists 8,69,813 registered voters in Mizoram, comprising 4,20,888 males and 4,48,925 females.
