Launched in 2020 by Prime Minister Modi, the SVAMITVA Scheme aims to create accurate records of rights in rural areas through the use of drone and GIS technology. These property cards serve as legal documentation and can also be used for financial purposes, including collateral for bank loans.

Mizoram signed a MoU with the Survey of India in 2021 to implement the scheme, and drone surveys were completed in December 2024, covering 319 villages across the state. Mizoram became the first state in the North East to distribute property cards in 2023, and with today’s event, a total of 2,909 property cards have been distributed. Plans are in place to issue around 35,000 property cards in future phases.

The event was also attended by Land Revenue & Settlement Minister Pu B. Lalchhanzova, Secretary Pu Vanlalmawia, and other senior officials.
