Gangtok , Jan 24: Major General M.S. Rathore, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 17 Mountain Division, met with the Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur, at Raj Bhavan on Thursday to discuss the ‘Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan’ initiative. The program, launched by the Government of India, aims to promote battlefield tourism and honor the sacrifices of Indian soldiers.
During the meeting, Major General Rathore briefed the Governor on the inclusion of significant sites like Nathula Pass, Doka La, and Chola Pass in the initiative. These sites hold historical importance, with Nathula being the site of the 1967 India-China conflict and Doka La witnessing the 2017 India-China standoff.
Governor Mathur praised the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the inclusion of these sites, stating that the initiative provides an opportunity for citizens to explore historic battlefields and learn about the valor of Indian soldiers.
The Governor also discussed his recent visit to Dichu village near Doka La, where local residents raised concerns about development and infrastructure. He directed Major General Rathore to address these issues promptly.
The ‘Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan’ program, launched on Indian Army Day (January 15, 2025), opens up 77 historic battleground sites across the country, including those in Siachen, Kargil, and Galwan.
Governor Mathur assured his full support for the program’s successful implementation in Sikkim.
