Siliguri, Jan 11: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang participated in the Himalayan Folk Festival in Siliguri on January 11, celebrating the region’s cultural heritage and ethnic music. The three-day festival also featured the grand finale of the Pan Himalayan Ethnic Singing Competition.
Soney Toto from Totopara, West Bengal, was declared the winner of the competition, with Phutti Sherpa from Ilam, Nepal, securing the first runner-up position, and Sarnu Ram from Himachal Pradesh finishing as the second runner-up.
During the festival, Chief Minister Tamang launched the book Mouri by the late Abhi Chandra Mothay and introduced the audio-visual project Mero Rukh Mero Santati.
The Warnamala Pariwar honored Chief Minister Tamang along with several distinguished individuals, including Ugen Chopel, Mohan Rai, Thendup Norbu, Garjan Kumar Mallik, Narendra Kumar Tamang, Ramesh Chettri, Bikey Pradhan, Matt Keegan, and the artists from Warnamala Pariwar.
Deoashish Mothey, founder of Warnamala Pariwar and member of the cross-cultural band The Three Seas, expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Tamang for his ongoing support, which played a key role in the festival’s success.
